SWEET AND LOWDOWN (1999)
WOODY ALLEN
Plot
Emmet Ray is the second best jazz guitarist in the world, a view that he holds without doubt, and that history is inclined to accept. But the success that could be Emmets always eludes him because of the brash and feckless nature of his character, the man's arrogance and self belief tempered by only one thing, Django Reinhardt, the gypsy guitarist who plays with such passion and heart that Emmet is haunted by the man, so full of awe that the very possibility of seeing his hero causes Emmet to black out. Sweet and Lowdown is an absolute delight, perfectly performed and beautifully filmed, with as you might expect from such a jazz afficionado, a superlative sound track.
