We follow the increasingly obsessive and sexually exploratory affair, one of Japan's more notorious scandals, between a servant and her master. The film celebrates their passion and, as the intensity between the two becomes all consuming, they plunge into an erotic world of their own, created and sustained by their own fantasies of virility and arousal. Realm of the Senses was banned upon its original release and its explicit nature is still quite breath-taking today, though it is also entirely appropriate to what is a fasinating and compulsive story.
