This box-office-busting supernatural tale - a remake of Robert Wise's 1963 chiller - boasts a star-spangled cast and some state-of-the-art special effects, but, sadly, fails to capture the genuinely creepy atmosphere of the original. Liam Neeson is the researcher who sets up camp in a deserted, reportedly haunted house, taking along a motley assortment of volunteers who believe they're taking part in an insomnia study. But Neeson, of course, has a hidden agenda, and is actually just waiting for nightfall when, hopefully, the spooks'll come out to play and he can study his subjects' reactions when they've got the fear of God in them. Watch with tongue firmly in cheek.
