THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR (1999) (1999)
JOHN MCTIERNAN
Plot
Box office-busting remake of the '60s heist thriller starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, with Pierce Brosnan making a splendid replacement for McQueen as Thomas Crown, the man who has everything. A self-made billionaire, businessman Crown is unimaginably wealthy, hugely successful, irresistable to women, and bored. So, in need of a little amusement, and with the help of a group of hired henchmen, he masterminds the audacious theft of a $100 million Monet painting. What he hasn't bargained for is Rene Russo, the fearless, hard-bitten insurance investigator who's already sussed him for the crime and may also be about to become the one woman capable of stealing his heart. A great old-fashioned crime caper, slickly handled by "Diehard" director John McTiernan, with the two leads triumphantly matching the sexual tension of the original.
