AGATHA (1978)
MICHAEL APTED
Plot
An intriguing true-life story, made all the more fascinating because it centres on the disappearance of Agatha Christie, herself one of this century's most prolific writers of murder mysteries. In 1926, during the disintegration of her own marriage, Agatha went missing for ten days, checking into a health spa where she was eventually discovered by an American newspaperman. While the film, rather frustratigly, fails to offer any real explanation for this strange incident, Vanessa Redgrave is excellent as the troubled author and the movie's meticulous authenticity can't be faulted.
