EXISTENZ (1998)
DAVID CRONENBERG
Cast
Plot
Probably Cronenberg's most commercial work to date, though his obsession with the flesh is still very much in evidence. The chameleon-like Jennifer Jason Leigh (Single White Female, Last Exit to Brooklyn) plays rebel video-game designer Allegra Geller, creator of the ultimate in virtual reality entertainment - "eXistenZ" - a program which plugs directly into the player's central nervous system. But the game's launch is rudely interrupted by a group of pro-reality freedom fighters determined to destroy the game and its creator, and Allegra, along with young Ted (Jude Law) is forced to take refuge in the only safe place she knows - the world of eXistenZ. Self-deprecating sci-fi romp.
