Plot

Mega-talented Jane Horrocks shows yet another string to her bow - an awesome singing voice - in this film adaptation of Jim Cartwright's hit stage play. Set in a bleak northern seaside town, Little Voice (Horrocks) is grief-stricken and virtually mute after the death of her father, spending most of her time holed up in her attic bedroom where she practices her secret passion for singing, belting out the hits of Judy Garland, Shirley Bassey and the like. When her blowsy mother Mari (Brenda Blethyn) takes up with slimy promoter Ray Say (Michael Caine), he wastes no time in milking Little Voice's big talent for all it's worth. Excellent performances in this tragi-comic tale.
