Seen in flashback through the eyes of Serbian villager Milan as he lies badly crippled in a Yugoslav hospital ward, this film depicts the horrors of war, the mixed reasons for fighting, the soldiers' despair and their ghastly ways of coping. With a very dark sense of humour, soldiers dancing to "Yugoslavia's Rocking" while villages burn for example, this is a superbly scripted film.
