Strangely split-level serial killer yarn, with Dennis Quaid as an ice-cold, renegade detective on a marathon mission to nail the homicidal maniac who, for his latest trick, has abducted his young son. Taken off the case for his own good, the frustrated FBI man's desperate quest is further hampered by increasingly obscure and goading messages from his murderous prey. In a seemingly irrelevant sub-plot, volatile motorist Danny Glover picks up a nervy hitch-hiker en route to the coast, following the same route as cop and kidnapper. A solid action thriller with a generous dollop of of mystery.
