An excellent adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel. Nolte plays an ex-baseball star living a quiet life in a rundown Californian fishing town. Amongst the motley assortment of locals he meets a young runaway and the two are hopelessly drawn together in a romance they know can't work. Charming.
