Plot

A group of socially disparate young American conscripts; among them middle-class African-American Roger, gay upper-class Manhattanite Richie, conservative Wisconsin country boy Billy and fearful streetwise black Carlyle. In charge of their training barracks are abrasive alcoholic Sgt Cokes, who has already served overseas, and aggressive Sgt Rooney, who is anxious to get there.
