WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD (1991)
CHARLES STURRIDGE
Plot
On a trip to Tuscany widowed Lilia falls for an Italian far below her in both age and social standing. When this frightful news reaches Blighty, Mrs Herriton dispatches son Philip to Monteriano to rescue her. He fails, but after Lilia dies in childbirth, he returns with his sister Harriet to retrieve the bambino, only to fail again - but not before he's fallen for Lilia's former companion Caroline Abbott. Stiff upper lips prove no protection against the ancient charms of tourist Tuscany. The performances and scenery are top notch, a classy costume drama.
