When a visionary architect and his wife flee post-war Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern United States, their lives are changed forever by a mysterious, wealthy client. “ It's long at 3 hours 20 minutes - the same length as "Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles", but it holds the attention in rather different ways. This is the story of a man of certainty and action, an architect, who has been through horrors and who finds some of the privileged simpletons of the USA difficult to cope with. We follow his story, so a lot depends on whether you're going to find the character sympathetic, but it features a superb performance from Adrien Brody in the lead role that - for me- does carry for the full length of the film. Nevertheless, some editing might have both shortened and improved the experience” - review from Neil Jacobs
