HOLY MOTORS (2012)
LEOS CARAX
Plot
Leos Carax’s critically acclaimed follow up to ‘Pola X’ We begin with a single day in Paris in the company of Monsieur Oscar, a chameleon-like figure, who's being chauffeured around the city. While travelling, he takes on the guise of many others, swiftly changing on board before heading off for his next appointment. This puts a sizeable responsibility on the shoulders of actor Denis Levant, as the number of characters he effectively inhabits in Holy Motors hits double figures by the end; but the different guises, which vary dramatically, also allow for the constant shift in tone of the film. The finished movie is as wildly ambitious, as it is unpredictable with flashes of mad, surreal genius. Take the trip…and it is a trip.
