'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' (skillfully adapted from the book of the same name) is a modest but thoroughly engaging thriller. Set in a gloomy modern Sweden, the atmosphere is tense, the characters authentic, whilst the mood is sombre and slightly dreamlike. Don't be fooled though, this is a psychologically brutal film addressing themes such as incest, sadism and violence, particularly against women. Although the inevitable twist dosn't quite think outside the box, it's an exhilarating and beautifully shot film. Watch it, but not with your mother.
