Independent single mother Donna, who owns a small hotel on an idyllic Greek island, is about to let go of Sophie, the spirited daughter she's raised alone. For Sophie's wedding Donna has invited her two lifelong best girlfriends, the practical, no-nonsense Rosie and, from her one-time backing band Donna and the Dynamos, the wealthy, multi-divorced Tanya. But on a quest to find the identity of her father Sophie has secretly invited three men from her mum's past, one of which she is convinced is her biological dad. 'Mamma Mia' is a big screen adaptation of the hugely successful stage musical and (depending on where you stand) is either shamelessly, almost terrifyingly naff, or, gloriously good natured escapism.
