When 14-year-old Roy Hobbs makes a baseball bat from a lightening hit oak tree his destiny is struck. The young lad soon catches the eye of the major league scouts and his journey to stardom would seem assured until a fateful meeting with a mysterious woman. Years pass and a much older Hobbs reappears as a rookie for the New York Knights. Overcoming physical pain and defying those who have a stake in seeing the team lose, Hobbs pursues his chance to lead the Knights to the penant and to finally fulfil his destiny.
