Steve Baker is a big time loser, likable, affable…..hopeless; But, spurred on by his unscrupulous uncle and his own dim wittedness Steve decides to try and pull off the ultimate in morally wrong scams. Our dubious hero decides to pass himself off as mentally handicapped and try and strike gold at the ‘Special Olympics'. Produced by the kings of bad taste comedy, the Farrelly Brothers, The Ringer is without doubt their schmaltzyist and least effective attempt to grab laughs yet, making as it does the fatal error of patronising its subject matter rather than challenging preconceptions while being generally very uncomfortable to watch.
