AMERICAN DREAMZ (2005)
PAUL WEITZ
Plot
Martin Tweed (read Simon Cowell) is a fame maker and though now ludicrously wealthy the only real passion left to him is how much he hates what he does. American Dreamz takes a slightly non-committal pop at Pop Idol' and its ilk, the fleeting celebrity and the vacuous cut throat world it inhabits; chuck in an obvious but ineffective Bush Jnr clone as President and a terrorist torn between his love of show tunes and explosive martyrdom, lose the courage of your convictions and the result is a film erring on the side of clichéd farce rather than comic satire. American Dreamz is not without flashes of wit but you can't help feeling slightly disappointed.
