Out in the countryside on a beautiful summer's day, Joe and Claire settle down to enjoy the view, replete with drifting hot air balloon, but when the balloon crash lands the ensuing rescue attempt ends in a gruesome death. At first only haunted by his feelings of responsibility, Joe finds himself the increasingly unwelcome focus of Jed, another witness to the tragedy, and a man who feels a life changing moment has passed between the two men. Take the 'humour' out of Notting Hill, darken the romance, keep the naval gazing yuppies, and up the ante from 30 something commitment crisis to life threatening crisis and there's Enduring Love. No real characterisation, no real surprises, but it looks good, it is well acted…...and most of my esteemed colleagues think it's great.
