A director's edition of the first in a long line of Star Trek movies. Star Trek: The Motion Picture remains probably the most ambitious of the franchise, obviously influenced as much by Kubrick's 2001 as it was Star Wars and though the film thuds rather leadenly between those two stools there is still some grand spectacle to be had. The crew attempt to prevent an unknown but immensely powerful alien ship from reaching the vulnerable shores of planet Earth.
