SECRET WINDOW (2004)
DAVID KOEPP
Plot
Penned by perennial retired writer, Stephen King, Secret Window tells the story of Mort Rainey, a writer who needs to find some time alone to finish a new story. Still getting over a messy divorce from his estranged wife, Amy, Mort finds an out-of-the-way shack but finds himself the victim of a stalker (played by John Turturro) who is convinced Mort stole an idea of his for one of his earlier novels. The film however seems a little restricted by its premise, as it struggles to bring in some much needed tension and surprise to fulfil its role as a horror cum thriller. The twists are forced and the acting is disappointing (Depp and Turturro don't seem too interested in bringing any believability to their characters). Most importantly, the psychological element responsible for successful adaptations from Stephen King's novels is missing. Extraordinarily mediocre.
