Jimmy Connelly is a mild mannered, likeable, if cereably challenged, milkman. When Jimmy inadvertently causes a contender for the world boxing title to drop out, he finds himself propelled into the limelight, and up for the chance to take a beating from the best. The Calcium Kid is a strange beast; take a story that even the Carry On team would dodge, overlay with a script written by a Carry On obsessive, but remove all innuendo, hand it to a group of actors would rather be somewhere else, and you'll begin to grasp its entertainment value….having said which the best mates a good laugh, just a shame the film wasn't about him.
