In the home of master painter, Johannes Vermeer, resides beautiful young maid, Griet. Increasingly drawn to the girl, Johannes sees in her a fellow spirit and as he brings her deeper and deeper into his confidence so the intensity of their relationship begins to create a fractious atmosphere within the household, a mood at odds with the inspiration she embues within the painter himself. The Girl With A Pearl Earring, taken from Tracy Chevalier's remarkable novel, is a visual feast that manages to convey both Griet's purity and strength in the dangerous world this innocent now so tenuously occupies.
