A dodgy casino and a wad load of cash make the basis for this surreal American indie thriller; amoral cops, angry mobsters, quirky love interest, a dude hitman, and Simon in the middle make up the rest. All set on the Indian reservations of California, 29 Palms has all the ingredients for a hip, clever flick but gets lost trying to hold together multiple character strands, a problem compounded by the stylized editing. Super cool or disappearing up its own back passage, you decide......I have.
