PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE (2002)
PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON
Plot
Overwhelmed by seven domineering sisters, Barry Egan has the social skills of a hamster and it is only when love comes looking for him that he has the chance to escape his emotional malaise. Sweet by nature and quietly unassuming, Barry harbours an intense rage born of frustration and it is his violent abuse of a number of inanimate objects from which much of this films humour springs... well, that and the proprietor of a 'dial a porn' service. Punch Drunk Love is a less complicated story than Paul Thomas Anderson's previous three films, a relatively simple tale of romance given a stylish, quirky originality and a superlative eye for visual story telling.
