Written, starring and directed by Asia Argento this is a dark and full on (apparently semi-autobiographical) account of an up and coming young actress' decent into a pitiless world of increasingly elusive sexual gratification and the next narcotic high. Anna seems doomed to an increasingly vacuous existence until she feels the stirrings of real love....but redemption may already be beyond her. Scarlet Diva is a curious combination of high-octane drama and debauchery, too voyeuristic perhaps to be truly harrowing or moving, but an interesting film nonetheless.
