Hal is your regular schmuck, unattractive on the outside, unattractive on the inside, but when he is hypnotized by a self help guru, Hal becomes less obsessed by the physical perfection of his fellow human, inparticular women, and his luck with the ladies begins to take a turn for the better. Shallow Hal is the latest offering from the Farrelly Brothers and while most of the film plays very much like a normal dodgy but funny Farrelly movie the last half an hour has a rather plaintive moral message about our own fickleness. An enjoyable film but if the Brothers really feel the need to make us mend our ways perhaps they ought to try something other than gross out comedy.
