Robert Martin is a complete dreamer, unemployable, volatile and constantly hoping that the next competition will be the one that wins them an escape from their predicament. His wife Angie however just wants them to become acceptable members of their neighbourhood rather than pariahs. Along with their two children and a mother in law who speaks her mind the Martins are not the most adored of families. The Martins is a curious combination of gritty and farcical, sad and feelgood, not sure it really pulls it off but it's certainly a valiant effort.
