A frustrated, highly strung, spectacularly unsuccessful puppeteer inadvertently finds a passage way into the mind of John Malkovich and, uniquely skilled as he is in the art of manipulation, this seems like the perfect opportunity to escape his dead-end life and dull wife. There is little point in trying to explain the story further, you'll just have to watch this fantastically surreal, absurd, dark, gobsmackingly original comedy - the brainchild of a quite obviously seriously warped puppy. Perhaps the most influential period in cinema history was the Italian neo-realism period of the late 40s and director Vittorio De Sica was one of the prime reasons for this important period of film-making. "The Bicycle Thieves" is a film about a poor man whose only means for a job is his bicycle, which gets stolen. The film follows him and his young boy throughout war-ravaged Rome in search of the stolen bike. The late, great Bill Hicks, tragically taken from us early in '94, live on stage at the Dominion Theatre in London. In this, his last performance, the outrageous comic plays to a sell-out audience and is as always, refreshingly irreverent, controversial and thought-provoking. Included in this tribute are clips of interviews with David Letterman and Jay Leno, brief interviews with comedians, including Sean Hughes and Eddie Izzard, anecdotal contributions from old school friends and his parents. This darkly comic tale of greed, love, ambition, murder and family continues as Ripley Holden, a charismatic family man with a dark past, begins to witness his hard won empire crumble around him and the loyalty of his family begin to fall away. Dennis Potter-esque in it's mix of genre and tone, this is a top quality tv production. One minute your watching a dodgy drug deal go down and seconds later the ensemble are performing a Smiths number. find out more...

A stunning visual account of man's struggle for survival in the 21st Century, a time when replicant life forms are beginning to surpass humans not just in intelligence but emotions, raising questions about our concepts of self. A post-modern sci-fi classic, THE great Hollywood movie of the '80s, the last great pre-computer film done with smoke-and-mirrors SFX and the definitive cult arthouse Sci-Fi film. Chaz Michael Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy are the kings of the ice and not surprisingly loath each other with a passion. When the two men are awarded joint gold at the world figure skating championships their mutual contempt comes to a head, the ugly brawl resulting in the loss of their medals and a lifetime ban from the sport. Tim Robbins wrote, directed and stars in a film that exposes very cleverly the underbelly of US politics. He plays the charismatic Roberts, a right-wing "protest" singer, whose views begin to capture the nation's interest. Sinister machinations abound behind the scenes, and the documentary style works well. Funny too!
