A young Australian, Katrina (Kidman) travels to England in search of the father she believed dead but who was actually forced out of the country upon the revelation of his disgraced war record. Katrina's journey ultimately brings her to Bangkok (her father's last known whereabouts) with a charming new lover in tow. Her hunt for her father proves fruitless and she decides to return home. At the airport Katrina is searched and a large quantity of heroin is found in her camera bag, a present from her beau, who has legged it. Imprisoned in the infamous Bangkok Hilton and facing death, her father finally stumbles out of his drunken daze, unwilling to tell his daughter his true identity he is nevertheless determined to save her and perhaps in the process find some redemption for himself. A classy, well acted and tense TV drama
