There are very few characters Robin Williams has not played during his busy acting career, so finally starring as a robot should not really come as a great surprise. Williams plays Andrew, a rather special robot in that he has real emotions, who, over the course of his time in service to the Martin family (two hundred years give or take) begins to unravel the intricacies of human life and love, while all the time harbouring the desire to become human himself. Gentle, occasionally amusing, sometimes slightly schmaltzy and with the obligatory Hollywood guide to "Happiness", pitfalls and all, always close to hand. An interesting idea which is largely ignored, the Bicentennial Man is easy viewing, demanding?... no, but then who wants demanding ALL the time?
