Long-awaited re-release of one of the British censor's infamous "video nasties", banned since 1983 and generally regarded as one of Dario Argento's finest works, albeit one of his nastiest. Successful crime writer Peter Neil arrives in Rome to promote his new book "Tenebrae". Pretty soon a spate of gruesome murders hits the city, with victims being cut up in much the same manner as in Neil's book, pages of which are stuffed into the deceaseds' mouths. Essentially a slasher thriller rather than horror, this is, nevertheless, extremely unpleasant, even by 21st Century standards.
