Formula rom-com with Hugh Grant playing - and here's the surprise twist - a floppy-haired, self-deprecating, terribly nice Englishman living in New York, where he works as an auctioneer (why do they always have such jammy jobs which take up so little of their time?), and is happily entwined with Gina (Jeanne Tripplehorn). Happily, that is, until she rejects his proposal of marriage. It turns out that the lovely Gina's dad is actually a highly persuasive Mafia boss, and all her previous boyfriends have followed him down the slippery road to a life of organised crime and all its temptations. And, well, you can guess the rest really. Tripplehorn is delightful as always, while James Caan proves a saving grace with his fabulously funny gangster performance, but halfwit Hugh just kind of blusters and blunders his way around, as usual.
