The ultimate 'brash-American-hustler-blags-his-way-into-Oxford-University-to-get-posh-Brit-girl' movie! Rob Lowe plays the 'don't-give-a-damn-about-you-stuffy-limeys-and-your-rules' wide boy who uses a friendly geeks mad computer skills to get into Oxford so he can pursue Lady Victoria, currently the squeeze of Julian 'I-own-half-of-Berkshire' Sands. His only way to gain some much needed respect is to beat everyone at rowing. The mid-eighties brought a storm of these 'White Americans Do It Better' movies (see Back to the Future (whitey invents rock n roll); Teen Wolf (whitey reclaims mastery of basketball); Soul Man (whitey becomes black). Now He's trying to out Brit the Brits... outdoing us in our prized arena of rowing, stealing a prized piece of noble ass in the process. Take that! Damn. You gotta love it though. Cary Elwes provides much needed support as an intolerable oik.
