Eric Stoltz (Braveheart, Pulp Fiction), plays a struggling film critic who reluctantly returns to his home town of Tulsa. The black sheep of a wealthy family, Stoltz is easily seduced when old mate Ronnie (Spader) hatches a plot to blackmail the local bigshot, whose son has got himself into a spot of bother involving a murdered hooker, and Ronnie has the photos to prove it. An overly convoluted plot fails, ultimately, to deliver the goods, but the moody, noirish atmosphere and solid performances from a great cast make it more than watchable.
