Oldboy director Park Chan-wook makes his English-language debut with this Southern Gothic-influenced psychodrama about India Stoker, a maudlin teenager whose father has recently died in a car accident. Enter the enigmatic figure of her Uncle Charlie, whose increasing presence in her life creates tensions between her and her mother, who has become smitten with the mysterious charmer. Borrowing liberally from both Shadow of a Doubt and Carrie, Wentworth Miller's script of pure pulpy hokum is raised to the level of fine art by Park's breathtaking visual style. (JB)
