14-year-old Mattie Ross is determined to avenge her father’s blood by capturing Tom Chaney, the man who shot and killed him for two pieces of gold. She enlists the help of Rooster Cogburn, a cynical, one-eyed, ‘shoot first don’t bother with questions’ US Marshall and LaBoeuf, a bounty-hunting Texas Ranger, to track her man. Despite many differences, their ruthless determination leads the unlikely threesome on a perilous adventure that only has one acceptable outcome, revenge.
Set in an unforgiving and unpredictable frontier where justice is simple and mercy is rare, 'True Grit' is a fine updating of the original novel, beautifully shot by the Coen Brothers, and exceptionally well performed.
