William Hundert is a classics teacher at a prestigious private school; he is a man guided by a strict code of morality, a sense of what is right and wrong that he attempts to imbue into his privileged pupils. When Sedgewick Bell arrives Hundert's world is thrown into confusion, this is a lad seemingly impervious to his ‘life education' and their unresolved battle of wills remains fresh in the teacher's mind even quarter of a century later. The Emperor's Club is a genteel drama very much in the vein of ‘Dead Poets Society' but focusing on the one that refused to believe.
