Vincent is a dedicated New York cop whose past is about to come back and tear his world apart. When a drug dealer is murdered on Long Beach Vincent is sent to investigate, but it soon becomes apparent that the prime suspect is his estranged junkie son, Joey, a realization that makes the father drift into a downward spiral of self recrimination. City By The Sea is more a drama than it is a thriller, surprisingly dark and un redemptive considering De Niro's recent outings and well worth a watch if Bobby being Bobby being a tormented father isn't an issue.
