The 'Great' war is raging and on the decimated fields of France the survivors of a British regiment take refuge in deserted German trench and await the arrival of their fellows. Unfortunately it soon becomes clear that the German troops who once occupied their new home had considerably more to deal with than bullets and bombs. Pure evil has made the underground bunkers its home and as terror envelops the men they begin to turn on each other. Deathwatch is a positive bloodfest, and though it lacks a script or indeed a concept to pull it into the classy cerebral horror of something like 'The Ring' or 'My Little Eye', there's a shed load of gory, brooding atmosphere. A decent, if humourless, step up from "Dog Soldiers".
