Review
Amelie has led a sheltered existence under the anally eccentric tutelage of her over protective parents. When Amelie finds work in a small Paris cafe her life continues in its own introverted fantasy until she discovers a tin box of memories and suddenly she sees her purpose, to bring happiness into the lives of others. In the pursuit of her good deeds Amelie becomes fascinated by a collector of discarded photo booth pictures, but as the possibility of love looms she begins to retreat from the intensity of such emotion. Though it lacks the gloriously dark comedy of his earlier Delicatessen, Amelie is a delightfully surreal and uplifting tale, with the stunningly beautiful and imaginative visuals that have become Jeunet's trademark.
