Fantastic and imaginative exploration of how a young person might deal with grief. Brilliantly told by Patrick Ness and superbly realised by J.A. Bayona, this is one story that balances drama and CGI with aplomb. Incredibly moving, deftly handled and one of my favourite films of last year. Liam Neeson's gravelly voice is brilliantly put to use as the tree. It's wonderful, please watch it!

Aron Ralston is an adrenalin junkie, and as any self respecting pleasurer of the ’oh, that’s a bit extreme!’, he’s full on tearing it through Utah's Canyonlands National Park when one leap too far leaves his arm pinioned by a bolder in a barren crevasse. Based on a true story this is the remarkable account of Ralston’s cocky, hopeful, desperate, hallucinatory and determined desire to survive. A superb performance by Franco (and a cracking soundtrack) help pull this minimalist film through; tight find out more...

A group of assassins come together for a suicide mission to kill an evil lord in Miike Takashi's latest offering. Having cut his teeth on action movies, he returns to the Samurai mission genre with gusto and the climax is an irresistable blend of exquisite choreography and bloodlust. The plot takes a backseat, but the interesting guy driving, Action-San, is who you want to watch anyway. find out more...
