One of the best horror movie ever made, an innocent American tourist runs in to a spot of trouble when he goes hiking on the Yorkshire moors and finds that he's going all hairy. A new terror stalks the streets of London town; includes the now classic and much imitated metamorphosis scene. find out more...

A middle-aged widower enters a relationship with a beautiful, docile, doll-like younger girl. The film starts slowly, just vague hints to leave you a little uneasy, but you are like a fish on a hook and you will be landed as this women's revenge film, perhaps the nastiest most disturbing horror ever made, will leave unforgettable images etched in your mind forever. find out more...

Dr Frankenstein and his monster both turn out to be alive, not killed as previously believed. Dr Frankenstein wants to get out of the evil experiment business, but when a mad scientist, Dr Pretorius, kidnaps his wife, Dr Frankenstein agrees to help him create a new creature, a woman, to be the companion of the monster. What distinguishes the film is less its horror content, which is admittedly low, than the macabre humour and sense of parody. Strong on atmosphere, Gothic sets and expressionist c find out more...

Phyllis Dietrichson is trapped in a loveless marriage to a man who inspires in her nothing but contempt, but rather than leave him Phyllis decides to kill him and collect on the insurance policy she's had set up with the help of her lover, and naive partner in crime, insurance salesman Walter Neff. The classic version of Frankenstein, often imitated but its stunning style has rarely been bettered. For the unfamiliar, Frankenstein tells the story of a maverick doctor's attempts to create life from the body parts of the deceased. His creation (Frankenstein's Monster...) is the tragic embodiment of goodness. More human than those around him, the monster finds himself needing friendship more and more, before embarking on a doomed relationship with a small girl who takes pity on him. Playing against time, like Memento, this is a gut wrenching exploration of an horrific act of indiscriminate brutality and the vicious revenge that is its consequence. Irreversible is an exceptionally powerful movie and one of the most disturbing pieces of cinema I've ever seen (the tortuously protracted rape scene would have Ghandi screaming for the death penalty). Awesome....but you have been warned. find out more...

One of the first horror movies, about a hypnotist who uses a somnambulist to do his murders, and a landmark in the history of cinema. The dark shadows, crazy angles and doom laden atmosphere of German Expressionism and the film's extraordinary use of painted light have rarely been copied, and its influence, on film noir in particular, is indisputable. find out more...
