Superb drama with Costner in perhaps his best role as jailbreaker Butch Haynes, a career criminal who has to kidnap a young boy to escape the law. The drama unfolds with the relationship between the two, and the pursuing Eastwood. Great performances, particularly the boy (T J Lowther) and excellently directed.

Riveting stuff from Clint as the aging Fed desperate to prove he's not over the hill, and that JFK's death wasn't his fault! John Malkovich is superb as the laconic and devious killer out to get both the president and Clint in one go. Cliches aside, tight direction keeps up maximum pace.

The script, the dialogue and the acting are all top drawer in this gripping, pacey, multi-layered tale of ambitious and talented young men tragically failing.

It's 1980s East Germany and our anti-hero, an accomplished surveillance officer, is ordered to spy on a successful and outwardly loyal playwright and his actress girlfriend, but the motive is not entirely political, involving the lust for the girl of a political commissar and the career prospects of his immediate superior. The Stasi officer is dragged into the Kafkaesque web created by this moral duplicity in this compelling and twisting tale. First class.
