IN MY COUNTRY (2004)

Essentially an interacial love story betwixt two journalists set against the backdrop of The Truth and Reconciliation Commission in post-apartheid South Africa. There's enough dirt about police murders and torture in the apartheid state to keep whites squirming uncomfortably and enough healing and forgiveness to leave you feeling that race problems dissipate with a bit of a hug. RED RIDING TRILOGY (DISC 1) (2009)
Certification18 Our Rating
A masterful adaptation of David Peace's Ellroy-esque noir trilogy. In '1974', the first chapter, a rookie journalist looks to solve the increasingly vexing case of a serial killer on the loose. A bleak vision of corruption in an emphatically isolated 'North', which raises the game for levels of darkness in TV drama. Andrew Garfield gives a captivating performance as the idealistic journalist in way over his head. Highly recommended.

State of Play is a classic conspiracy thriller that promotes the belief that New Labour has betrayed the longing for a new ethical politics, replacing the sleaze scandals of the Major years with more of the same. The script, the dialogue and the acting are all top drawer in this gripping, pacey, multi-layered tale of ambitious and talented young men tragically failing.
