A dramatisation of the spy Guy Burgess's school days at Eton, showing the cruel and rigid system that educated the leaders of the day. Extremely convincing in its detailing, including Everett's portrayal of the young, exuberant, homosexual Guy Burgess. A modern British cinema classic.

Donat is perfectly cast as the lovable teacher, in this classic British drama, reminiscing about his career and personal life over the decades, his rise from lowly Latin master to headmaster of a public school and the joys and tragedies which moulded his transformation. An excellent performance from Finney.

Superb adaptation of Graham Swift's novel about growing up in the poverty stricken, primitive, rural Fenland. Irons is peerless as the ageing and troubled history teacher, disillusioned as his students with dry facts and figures, taking them on a field trip though his personal history re-exploring his marriage to his childhood love and the often tragic experiences that befell them. Brilliant and moving.
