Set during the Great Depression and based on the true story of James J Braddock, Cinderella Man is the story of an ex-prize-fighter (Russell Crowe) who makes a last-chance bid to return to the ring in order to help his impoverished family. With no one thinking he has a chance, and with nothing to lose, Braddock begins an amazing comeback. A heartwarming, well acted film with enough blood and guts to give balance to the slightly sentimentalised script. Highly enjoyable.

Kline and Judd combine well in this delightful homage to the life and times of Cole and Linda Porter, man and wife, composer and muse, a couple who led a life of glamour and indulged eccentricity. Donat is perfectly cast as the lovable teacher, in this classic British drama, reminiscing about his career and personal life over the decades, his rise from lowly Latin master to headmaster of a public school and the joys and tragedies which moulded his transformation. The film won a staggering seven Academy Awards. Hugely enjoyable.
