Unbelievably, this is the only celluloid representation of everyones (well, some peoples) favourite flying ace. And it's a stinker. The filmmakers opt for the old fish-out-of-water/time-travel schtick as Biggles finds himself embroiled in a sub-Indiana Jones adventure. Strictly for kids. Who are under 6. Still, we wouldn't be a responsible film library if we didn't represent Biggles on some level. find out more...

A story set around Czech pilots who flew under the banner of the RAF during the second world war this a visually lush and striking film, though the story itself relies rather too heavily on melodrama, providing as it does a picture of cinematic heroism and love lost that firmly shuns any threat of originality. Dark blue World is by the same director as Kolya and though by no means a bad film it stills leaves you slightly disappointed that he did not do more with the subject he had chosen. find out more...

So you thought the first "Die Hard" was action-packed? This time the terrorists hold an entire airport to ransom, cutting off its power supply and leaving dozens of flights in mid-air. Bruce Willis is on the scene, and God help any bad guy that gets in his way. Every bit as good as the first one. find out more...

A flight surgeon and a navy pilot overcome personal differences to work on solving the problem of dive bombers blacking out and dying. Another adrenalin fuelled collaboration between Flynn and Curtiz, based on a true story, but more interested in the suicidal/heroic white knuckle world in which so many early experimental pilots seemed to live. find out more...

On the morning of September 11th 2001 United Flight 93 set off from Newark airport; not long after two passenger jets were flown into the World Trade Center in New York and, as the news reached those on board, it became clear that they also were at the mercy of terrorists. For the passengers and crew it must have seemed death was inevitable, their only choice simply how they wished to die. Flight 93 is a surprisingly worthy attempt to dramatise the fateful events, it plays neither as a rant agai find out more...

Dennis Quaid is a nonchalant, acerbic, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kinda pilot, and when he picks up a disgruntled oil rig crew in the middle of a desert no one is keen to make friends. A couple of hours later, having barely survived a vicious storm, everyone is stranded deep in the Gobi thousands of miles from civilisation and with only the remnants of a plane. Rather than accept their fate the survivors’ band together and decide to build a new craft from the bits that are left, a pointless a find out more...
