Review
A sharply-observed tale of East meeting West, scripted by acclaimed writer Hanif Kureishi. Easy-going taxi driver Parvez is as westernised as they come, having embraced his adopted northern English city with gusto. But conflict consumes his family when teenage son Farid turns to religion, becoming a fanatical Islamic fundamentalist on a mission to rid the streets of prostitutes. Which is bad news for Parvez, who's enjoying a touching, tentative romance with local lady of the night Bettina. A warm-hearted love story, set against a witty portrayal of culture-clash and the age old generation gap.
